The largest sports media rights deal in UK history, and the income much of English football borrows against.
What happened
The Premier League announced domestic rights worth £6.7bn across four seasons from 2025/26, including a reported £300m for BBC highlights. The league described it as the largest sports media rights deal in UK history.
How it was structured
Sky took four of the five live packages and TNT Sports took the other. The rise in value came alongside an extra year on the cycle and an increase from 200 to as many as 270 live matches a season, which means the value per match did not rise in step with the headline.
Our review
Central broadcast distributions are among the most lendable income in sport, because of who pays them and how predictably they arrive. Headline records still need reading closely: the growth came from more matches and a longer term.
