CVC's Global Sport Group: a reported €3.7bn of new capital at the portfolio level

Original reportingSportsProSportico

Debt and preferred equity are now being raised against a portfolio of sports rights.

What happened

CVC's Global Sport Group, formed in September 2025 to hold its sports investments, was reported in March 2026 to have raised about €3.7bn at a €7bn valuation. Reports put Pimco's share at about €1.5bn of debt and KKR's at about €1.4bn, mostly preferred equity.

How it was structured

The group holds interests in LaLiga, Ligue 1, the WTA, Volleyball World, Premiership Rugby, the United Rugby Championship and the Six Nations. The capital sits above those individual positions, so investors take exposure to a diversified portfolio rather than one competition.

Our review

Sports finance has moved up a level. Lending against a single club or league is now joined by financing against a portfolio of league interests, which says a good deal about how deep the investor base has become.
