Liberty Media adds a second motorsport series after a long regulatory review.
What happened
Liberty Media completed its acquisition of Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of MotoGP, in July 2025. The deal gave Liberty 84% of the business, with MotoGP's management keeping the other 16%. Liberty put Dorna's enterprise value at €4.3bn at clearance, up from €4.2bn at announcement.
How it was structured
The deal was announced in April 2024 and had been expected to close by the end of that year. European Commission clearance, the final condition, came unconditionally in June 2025.
Our review
Liberty already owns Formula 1, so this is a move towards a portfolio of global rights. For financiers, the fifteen months between signing and closing is a reminder that regulatory timing can matter as much as price.
