Long-term institutional notes replace short-term construction funding.
What happened
Everton announced a £350m senior funding package for its 52,888-capacity stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, less than three months after The Friedkin Group completed its takeover of the club. The Friedkin Group arranged the package with JP Morgan, and the club described it as oversubscribed several times over.
How it was structured
Notes were placed privately with a group of institutional investors, refinancing the short-term funding used to complete construction. The club expected to save tens of millions of pounds a year in debt payments.
Our review
This is a familiar pattern: shorter-term funding carries a stadium through construction, then long-term capital takes it out once the risk has fallen. A clear route to that refinancing matters from the start.
