Atlético de Madrid: Apollo Sports Capital becomes majority shareholder

Original reportingESPNSporticoIberian LawyerFlashscore: completion

A large alternative manager takes control of a LaLiga club, with existing investors staying in.

What happened

Atlético de Madrid announced in November 2025 that Apollo Sports Capital would become its majority shareholder, and the deal has since completed. Financial terms were not officially disclosed. Press reports put the stake at around 55% and the valuation between €2.2bn and €2.5bn.

How it was structured

Quantum Pacific Group stays on as the second-largest shareholder, with about 25% according to reports, and the existing management remains in place. Shareholders also approved up to €100m of additional capital for the club's investments.

Our review

A change of control changes a lender's counterparty, so continuity of management and new equity both count. The deal also shows how large alternative managers now appear across football's capital structure, as owners as well as lenders.
